Reflecting on both the Semi-quincentennial of America and the Sesquicentennial of Colorado’s statehood, Freedom to Thrive: The American Experiment in Colorado Springs centers people and stories to examine opportunities and obstacles to freedom in our community. This exhibit presents an exciting opportunity for local 7th-12th grade classrooms to explore the following questions through a regional lens:
- In 2026, what does it mean to be an American, a citizen, a resident?
- Using history as our guide, what are our best hopes for tomorrow?
- How do we ensure future generations will enjoy the “fruits of liberty and democracy”?
- How can we overcome our political, social, and economic differences to work together on the shared project that is the “American Experiment”?
Access the exhibit introductory text, which frames the themes and concepts explored throughout, and a lesson and discussion guide (7th-12th grade) below. During the fall of 2026 the museum is testing activities for middle and high school groups and plan to launch a field trip program in 2027.
