October is Arts Month, and the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum (CSPM) is proud join the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region (COPPR) and arts organizations across the region to celebrate. Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore, experience and engage with stories and art through our exhibits and public programs.

"50% of the Story: Women Expressing Creativity"
Explore the reimagined "50% of the Story: Women Expressing Creativity" gallery with recently acquired artworks. The “50% of the Story” project has transformed the CSPM’s collection to more accurately reflect the complexity, diversity, and richness of the people and culture of the Pikes Peak region. Explore historic artwork and artifacts, alongside contemporary pieces to consider how women across time have always told their stories through art and creativity.
Freedom to Thrive: The American Experiment in Colorado Springs
Recently unveiled, Freedom to Thrive: The American Experiment in Colorado Springs (FTT)is an important contribution to the 250/150 commemoration. Reflecting on both the Semi-quincentennial of America and the Sesquicentennial of Colorado’s statehood, this important exhibit centers people and stories to examine opportunities and obstacles to freedom and equality in our community and features artwork from local Colorado Springs artists Kevin Johnson and Johnny Larson.
Until Forever Comes: This is Ute Homeland
Until Forever Comes: This is Ute Homeland is a permanent exhibit developed after five years of tribal consultation - or conversations - with tribal historians, Ute Elders, and tribal representatives from the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Tribe, and the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation. CSPM staff worked with over two dozen contemporary Ute artists and creators to commission and/or purchase items for the exhibit and for the museum's permanent collection.
Una Familia Grande: The Conejos Neighborhood Project
A community-based exhibit, Una Familia Grande: The Conejos Neighborhood Project uses artifacts, photographs, and stories to put this once vibrant neighborhood back on the map. Explore this exhibit and learn more about Connie Benavidez and the ongoing legacy of Ballet Folklórico de la Raza.
Colorado Nick: A Legacy of Tattoo Art in Colorado Springs
Developed in partnership with Scott and Kayla Boyer, founders of Yellow Beak Press, Colorado Nick: A Legacy of Tattoo Art in Colorado Springs features a vibrant range of tattoo art known as flash, tools of the trade, and stories highlighting the history and legacy of Colorado Nick along with a host of others.
