Congratulations to the June Volunteer of the Month, Ellen Thommesen! Ellen joined the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum (CSPM) Marketing Committee in 2017. As the previous Public Affairs Specialist and now Senior Analyst at Colorado Springs Utilities, she brings her knowledge and expertise in journalism, marketing, digital marketing, and communications to the Marketing Committee. Ellen is also passionate about the CSPM’s mission and how visitors connect with our region’s history. She has always brought that energy and enthusiasm to support the museum.
"It all comes down to the mission: We exist to build a lasting connection to the Pikes Peak region by preserving and sharing our cultural history. What's more important than connecting with your history? The Museum does an amazing job of this in our community and I love supporting it."
Ellen Thommesen, CSPM Board Member and Marketing Committee Chair
Ellen increased her engagement with the Museum this year by joining the Board and serving as the Marketing Chair. At the beginning of her Marketing Chair term, she collaborated with the CSPM Marketing Team to determine the committee’s priorities. These discussions lead to starting a committee project to learn more about how visitors hear about the Museum. In March and April, the Marketing Committee and the Board developed survey questions and collected 210 surveys. These surveys resulted in providing a better understanding of our visitors. During the June Board meeting, Ellen presented the findings and shared how the Marketing Committee plans to move forward with additional surveys. “We learned a lot from our last survey process that inspired us to ask additional questions. We plan to conduct another survey in the future.”
“Ellen really started this year with such enthusiasm and excitement to the CSPM Board and Marketing Committee! In a couple of short months, she steered the committee to research and develop strategic priorities on how to spread awareness about the CSPM. I am looking forward to our next set of projects to continue enhancing the Museum’s marketing efforts!” — Diane Stine, CSPM Development Director.
Ellen says that she is a pretty typical Coloradan. She loves to hike, bike, and camp with her husband and dog. They go on road trips around Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah all year. When they are in Colorado Springs, you can find them on the trails, at Loyal Coffee, on the Ivywild patio, or at a Switchbacks game.
Thank you, Ellen, for serving on the CSPM Board and Marketing Committee!
