Without our volunteers, we would be history! Each year, the museum relies on over 100 volunteers and interns to support our mission to build a lasting connection to the Pikes Peak region by preserving and sharing our cultural history. We are looking for volunteers that share our values, want to give back to their community, and are willing to learn and grow.
Volunteering at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum has profoundly touched me and has altered the way I understand regional history. The wonderful teaching and support provided by museum staff as well as fellow volunteers is deeply appreciated. It is an honor to try to pass on this teaching to our museum visitors.
Volunteer Positions
Support the museum’s mission through data entry, filing, mailings, and a variety of projects organizing office and program supplies. Some projects require basic computer skills utilizing programs such as MS Office.

Museum Education Volunteers are trained to lead engaging and informative programs for guests of all ages utilizing best practices in museum education. The time commitment varies but all educators are asked to volunteer at least once a month. Educators must bring energy, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn and grow to their role.
Museum Tour Guides
Guides help museum guests ignite their curiosity through engaging and educational tours exploring special themes. Guides lead both pre-scheduled weekly drop-in tours and group tours.
School Program Volunteers
School Program Volunteers work predominantly with local 2nd through 5th graders at our Hands on History stations throughout the museum and travel to schools for our History Detectives outreach program. Field trips are offered mornings, Tuesday through Friday.
Gallery Attendants
- Provide a welcoming presence in museum exhibits and interact with guests
- Enhance the visitor experience by answering questions, encouraging conversations, and facilitating guest’s engagement with art
- Lead simple activities and demonstrations at the “Hands on History” cart
- Monitor the gallery space to help protect the art
- Collect visitor data and share observations with Museum staff

The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is looking for enthusiastic volunteers with excellent customer service skills to support our front desk. Customer Service Volunteers typically commit to one 3.5 hour shift each week.
Front Desk Volunteer
- Front desk volunteers set the tone for the visitor’s experience with a welcoming and informative greeting. You will be trained how to greet visitors, utilize the computer to perform a variety of basic functions, answer calls, and how to share information with guests. You will also support the staff in other projects as needed.

Our Collections and Museum Education departments work with interns throughout the year. Any opportunities will be posted here.

The CSPM is always looking for passionate community members to join our committees and share their knowledge and expertise. The following committees currently have openings:
- Exhibits and Programs Committee: Provide critical community oversight and feedback on the development of museum programming and exhibits to fulfill our mission to build a lasting connection to the Pikes Peak region by sharing our cultural history. We are looking for a new members with experience with K-12 schools, preschools, and/or knowledge of community organizations.
- Finance Committee: Assists in providing financial oversight for the CSPM and counsel for the Board to uphold their fiduciary responsibility to the Museum.
- Fundraising Committee: Assists in developing annual and long-term revenue generating plans for the Museum.
- Marketing Committee: Support the development and implementation of marketing strategies and efforts for the Museum.
