Congratulations to the November Volunteer of the Month, Barbara Carpenter! Barbara joined the museum as a volunteer in June of this year. Barbara works full-time for Lockheed Martin as a Human Factors Engineer. She has graciously stepped in to dedicate many of her Saturdays to cover front desk shifts and support family programs. As a history enthusiast, she believes that “we have to know our history in order to make good decisions about the future.” As a volunteer, she loves supporting the museum in its mission – “By volunteering, I am doing my small part to help.”
Barbara enjoys her time working with the staff. “I will say that all of the people who work there are very dedicated. It makes it an awesome place to volunteer.” She is also a fan of the Story of Us exhibit and loves that the community can submit their own stories through the “Y = You” portal.
Barbara is an absolute pleasure to work with. She is a vital front desk member as she fills one of our hardest time slots, Saturday afternoons. Barbara consistently brings a wonderful and willing attitude with her no matter if she is working at the front desk or helping with programs. We are so fortunate to have her.

In addition to her volunteering, Barabara leads a full life with her husband, Eric, 8 children, and 6 grandchildren. She and Eric (who has also begun volunteering with the CSPM!) live on a “hobby farm” where they have “two large greenhouses, ducks, and chickens.” They love gardening, learning, and trying new things together each day.
Thank you for everything, Barbara!
