Congratulations to our March Volunteer of the Month, Georgia Martinez! Georgia began volunteering at the front desk in August of 2017. She had relocated from Denver to Colorado Springs with her husband to be closer to family, “I have always enjoyed volunteering and wanted to feel connected to the community. After our first visit to the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, I knew I wanted to get more involved.” She enjoys the people she works with on a daily basis and “learning about the history of Colorado Springs and feeling like I am a part of the community.”
Casey and I have enjoyed working alongside Georgia for many years. Georgia is so pleasant and informative to guests that it allows me to do other functions because I know the front desk is under control! It is a true pleasure having Georgia volunteer at the front desk. Always helpful and willing to go that extra mile for guests and staff. I just hope you know how much we appreciate you!
One of her favorite parts of volunteering is that she is aware of events and programs happening at the museum, “I had family visiting from out of town and we were able to do the outside tour of the museum. The tour introduced me (and my family) to details we would not have otherwise known.” She is most fascinated by the stories of people who journeyed to the Pikes Peak region from all over, especially those seeking a cure from tuberculosis in the “City of Sunshine.”
Georgia spent 20 years in healthcare before retiring. When not volunteering she spends her time learning to play piano and crochet. She also enjoys spending time with my family and raising their granddaughter, a senior in high school, who will be attending college in the fall!
