June Volunteer of the Month: Bob Freeman - CSPM

June Volunteer of the Month: Bob Freeman

Meg Poole, CSPM Program Coordinator

The June Volunteer of the Month, Bob Freeman, began volunteering at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum front desk 7 months ago. The Museum is experiencing a volunteer shortage, and we were thrilled to encounter someone with so much enthusiasm to learn the new role and contribute to the mission of the Museum. In addition to covering his set shift, Bob has also graciously taken on many extra openings. Bob expressed that for him, giving back to his community is really important. He chose the CSPM because he appreciates that we are free and open to everyone regardless of their financial situation. He also loves the opportunity to get out and try something new! Bob has witnessed many of the thousands of school children who come to the Museum for a Hands on History field trip and shared “I always enjoy the looks on the faces of the small children who visit when they first come in the door.”

Bob has been a great addition to the front desk volunteers. Bob has a warm and inviting greeting for guests as they enter the museum. His versatility in helping fill openings at the front desk has been a tremendous help! Bob is always looking to gain more knowledge about our museum exhibits. Bob is just a pleasure to work with!

Bob, Front Desk Volunteer

Bob has lived in Colorado Springs since 1974, with the exception of 4 years spent overseas on military assignments. After retiring from the U.S. Army in 1997, Bob’s last “real job” was working as a federal civilian employee in the Contracting Office at Fort Carson. Bob and his wife Sandy, a retired RN, enjoy being out on area biking and hiking trails whenever possible. As a lover of the great outdoors he greatly appreciates the work of the Trails and Open Space Coalition to connect trails and preserve open spaces. Bob and Sandy’s daughter, son-in-law (and new grand dog!) live in Westminster. In addition to the time Bob donates to the Museum, he also volunteers as a musician with the TriLakes Music Society for their annual Christmas Cantata fundraiser, which benefits TriLakes Cares.

Congratulations and THANK YOU to Bob!
