Every year, the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum (CSPM) hosts an annual fundraiser to support the museum’s exhibits, educational programming and preservation of its object and archival collection. This is a time where we gather to celebrate the CSPM, learn what is coming up and share how our supporters are making a difference at the CSPM. This year, we made the decision to host the Gift of History online.
The event was wildly successful. We raised $106,748 in cash and pledges from our Gift of History Leaders, supporters and our community. More than 500 viewers watched the Gift of History Live and throughout the rest of the campaign. We want to take a moment to thank you and share how this all came together.

A New Gift of History Format
During the COVID-19 closure, the Museum staff were asked what projects we were working on. The CSPM staff realized that many times the public does not see the projects on a day-to-day basis. This new format provided an excellent opportunity to showcase a behind-the-scenes look into the Museum. With the help of the City Communications Springs TV, we delved deeper into Museum operations by exploring the Museum’s preservation efforts, exhibit design and collection storage.
Gathering Together Online
We gathered together online to watch the Gift of History from near and far. More than 100 watch this event live on Facebook, YouTube, and on our website. By the end of the campaign on Monday, August 31, we reached more than 500 viewers. We appreciated the enthusiasm from our attendees who participated in the Museum Director’s Matt Mayberry request to share your Gift of History Selfie with us!
Helen McCaffrey Charitable Trust Matching Grant Announcement
During the Live Event, Museum Director Matt Mayberry shared the generous matching grant from the Helen McCaffrey Charitable Trust. Helen McCaffrey was a native of Colorado Springs who was passionate about preserving our history and places. After her passing, she left a legacy in Colorado Springs. This match was reached by the end of the campaign and many donations made a further impact at the CSPM.
Thank You from the CSPM Staff
