My name is Madeleine Panek, and I was fortunate enough to work as the Education Intern this summer. I am currently studying at the Colorado University at Boulder, where I am double majoring in History and Classics, with plans to continue in the museum field. I am unsure what role I want to fill in a museum and am eager to seize any experience that comes my way.

In high school, I participated in the CSPM Junior Docent Program. This exposed me to Museum Education and Programming. I loved my time spent as a Junior Docent, and when I found out about this internship, I knew I had to apply. The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is one of my favorite museums. It carries amazing exhibits and runs wonderful programs. The staff is excellent, and I have learned so much from everyone.
The Education Internship began in early May and ended August 6. Through this internship, I have been able to gain a thorough understanding of the museum career field. I have been able to observe the day-to-day tasks of a museum employee. I have worked most closely with the programming department, which has allowed me to explore an aspect of the field that is less well-known. Because I started in May, I was able to observe and help lead school field trips. I have also helped lead many different tours and programs. I was involved in the Museum Discovery Summer Camps and was able to develop some of the activities. Not only have I been able to better understand the career field I am most interested in, but I have also been able to develop skills in public speaking and professionalism. This internship has helped grow my confidence and prepared me to continue working within museums.
