Donor Spotlight: State Historical Fund

Diane Barber Stine, Development Director

The History Colorado State Historical Fund (SHF) recently awarded the CSPM a grant to support its $100,000 project to rehabilitate the Division III Courtroom and create a new exhibition gallery. In December, SHF awarded $4.5 million in grants to nearly a dozen projects focused on preserving the rich cultural heritage of communities of Colorado and diversifying the face of historic preservation for future generations. Division III Courtroom at the El Paso County Courthouse (Dec. 1913, CSPM Archives.

Over the past decade, the CSPM has achieved record visitation welcoming more than 100,000 visitors annually and will need to increase its offerings to build on this success. However, the exhibition gallery space in the historic 1903 El Paso County Courthouse is currently at maximum capacity. The CSPM applied for a SHF grant to support this project in alignment with the CSPM’s space utilization plan and towards the proposed exhibit, “Conducting Transformation: A History of Social Change in the Pikes Peak region.” This will b e a community-driven project that will collect, preserve and share stories of Social Justice and Civil Rights in Colorado Springs.

During the Gift of History, Matt shared about this transformational project:

The completion of the Division III Courtroom will provide the first new exhibition gallery in the Museum in decades. It will allow us to show more of our collection, tell more stories, and engage more of the public in the fascinating history of the Pikes Peak region.

Thank you to State Historical Fund for supporting this transformational project at the CSPM!
