ABOUT THE PROGRAM

This talk explores the rich and complex history of Asian Americans in the United States, focusing on the unique experiences of Asian immigrants in Colorado and America’s heartland. Beginning with the arrival of Chinese laborers in the 19th century and the vital contributions of Japanese farmers in the early 20th century and then the arrival of Southeast Asian refugees, this presentation provides a sweeping chronicle of Asian American history.

Against this historical backdrop, Leisle will present a deeply personal narrative, weaving together individual stories from her own life, as well as her family and friends. These accounts bring a human face to the immigrant experience, illustrating themes of identity, resilience, and belonging.

By blending historical insights with personal anecdotes, the presentation will not only illuminate the enduring contributions of Asian Americans to the U.S., but it will also invite the audience to reflect on the universal quest for opportunity and home.
