The Museum Staff Go to Pueblo

by Diane Barber Stine, Development Director

On Wednesday, October 27, 2021, the CSPM Staff headed to Pueblo, Colorado for a Professional Development Day. We were excited to explore these institutions as a team and to meet with other regional museum professionals.

Built in 1893, this 37-room mansion was home to John A. and Margaret Thatcher family. The Executive Director, Deb Darrow, gave a private tour of the home to the CSPM group. Ms. Darrow also joined the staff for lunch to provide additional context about Rosemount Museum’s operations. The CSPM’s Board of Directors provided funds for the team’s delicious lunch of Pueblo Chile.

El Pueblo History Museum, a Community Museum of History Colorado, is in the heart of historic downtown Pueblo. This museum showcases the region’s many cultural and ethnic groups through innovative exhibits, including Borderlands of Southern Colorado and Children of Ludlow.

Located in the historic Colorado Fuel and Iron Company (CF&I) Administration Offices, the Steelworks Center of the West provides continuing education to the public through the preservation of historic archives, artifacts and buildings of the CF&I, and related activities leading to the industrialization of the entire Western United States. Museum Curator, Victoria Miller, took the CSPM staff on a private our of their Museum and facilities to show how they preserve and share the history of CF&I.
