Containing a diverse range of voices and primary sources, the Stroud Family Collection offers researchers insight into the brilliance, persistence, outstanding achievements, entrepreneurial excellence, and dedication to public service that the Stroud Family continues to demonstrate.

The Stroud Family Collection began with donations by Juanita Stroud Martin and Lulu Pollard in the 1990s. Thanks to additional donations in 2024 by Stroud family members Percy Pellerin, Michelle Bourgeois, and Juanita Stroud Martin, the collection has now grown to four cubic feet of materials.

This includes photographs and materials representing all eleven children of Kimball Dolphus and Lulu Magee Stroud —Kimbal, Albert, Dolphus, Effie, Tandy, Jack, James, Lulu, Nina, Rosa Mae, and Bobby —and their extended families.  Letters, news clippings, ephemera, genealogical research, and publications reflect their personal and professional lives and accomplishments—such as Dolphus qualifying for the 1928 Olympic Trials, Effie receiving the first Sachs Foundation Scholarship, Jack’s career in aeronautics, and Nina becoming the first Black school teacher in the Colorado Springs District 11.

At CSPM, we believe that everyone’s story is important.  As stewards of the community’s history, we are honored to preserve and share these stories. However, that is only half of the equation. We can only tell stories that are shared with us. Thank you, Percy, Michelle, Juanita, and the entire Stroud Family, for sharing your family’s story with the CSPM!
