Former Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers and Mrs. Janet Suthers are passionate about our community and its history. In 2022, they named the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum as one of their philanthropic priorities and created the Suthers Family Fund. This endowed fund is by CSPM Foundation and will support the museum’s exhibition program. They intend to provide generous funding for the endowment through annual distributions and a planned gift through their estate.
As a native of Colorado Springs, John Suthers has certainly seen the city change and grow over his lifetime. He values history as a tool that helps us to reflect upon these changes and to be inspired by those that came before us. In the attached video, Mr. Suthers shares his long-time connection to the museum, and its role in inspiring his passion for history. During his term as mayor, Mr. Suthers challenged the museum staff and board members to expand and enhance its exhibition space so we can tell more stories from the region’s past. This goal is about to become a reality as the Division III Courtroom will be renovated in the coming months to house new exhibitions. The Suthers Family Fund will provide needed financial support to help underwrite these exhibits.
“We feel so honored to be a philanthropic priority for John and Janet Suthers,” says museum director Matt Mayberry. “As Mayor, he often talked about how he wished to be a good ancestor, and to leave a positive impact for future generations. They are now living out those values ambition through the creation of the Suthers Family Fund.”
Thank you again to John and Janet Suthers for their generosity! If you wish to provide financial support for the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum or explore making a planned gift please contact Development Director Diane Stine at Diane.Stine@coloradosprings.gov or call (719) 385-5633.
