CSPM Board members, Foundation members and committee members gathered to celebrate this past year at the CSPM’s Holiday Get Together. During the event, Matt Mayberry and Meg Yevara recognized longstanding board members and committee members who have reached their term limits and are stepping away from their current roles at the end of 2024.
“Board and committee members help move institutions forward. I am honored to recognize each of these individuals' efforts in leading the CSPM to achieve its big vision of being the source for igniting curiosity and inspiring discovery. John, Davis, Darryl, Kathy and Linda each contributed their expertise, time and most importantly their passion to help guide the CSPM to the institution we are today. Their efforts led to the CSPM achieving its big vision to being the source for igniting curiosity and inspiring discovery.”
Matt Mayberry
Thank you John Harner and Davis Tutt for your Board Leadership
Davis Tutt
As a fifth generation Colorado Springs native, history has always been important to Davis and his family. He believes that the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum serves our community by preserving its history and ongoing story. His passion for history led to him serving on the Board in 2019. Throughout his service, Davis always shared his passion for the museum with others. His community connections and background contributed to the CSPM’s growth in financial resources to support our pathbreaking exhibits and powerful programs.
Dr. John Harner
Dr. John Harner is an accomplished professor of Geography and Environmental Studies at UCCS. Prior to serving on the Board of Directors in 2019, Dr. Harner was part of the earliest brainstorming sessions with the CSPM team where the Story of Us project was first imagined, and afterwards designed the dynamic maps and then & now photograph features in our award-storytelling platform. His scholarly pursuits led him to further his involvement with the CSPM. Throughout his tenure, John has been a great ambassador sharing with friends, family and colleagues about CSPM and his work. He also led the Programs Committee to help develop ideas for community programming, especially when the CSPM had to reach outside of its walls. In 2020, John was recognized as the 2020 Volunteer of the Year for his passion for local history, dedication to our mission and willingness to step up when needed.
Farewell to Longstanding Committee Members
Kathy Lindeman
Kathy joined the Programs Committee in 2015. When journalist and historical author Marshall Sprague passed away in 1994, a memorial fund was established at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum. In 1996, the museum held the first William C. Henderson History Day Competition and awarded the $1,000 Marshall and E.J. Sprague Scholarship to a student from Palmer High School. Kathy has served as the Colorado Springs Regional Coordinator for National History Day since 1997. In her role at Colorado College and expertise on History Day, Kathy has been a critical member of the Programs Committee. She has provided information on updates to judging guidelines, yearly themes, important dates, and so much more. She has also assisted in building connections with Colorado College faculty and other community organizations. She has never hesitated to support museum programs and events, even painting hundreds of tiny faces at the Festival of Lights Family Fun Day. We look forward to Kathy’s ongoing guidance for the Sprague Scholarship as a History Day advisor to the committee.
Linda Sauer
Linda Sauer has always worn many hats at the CSPM. She served on the Programs, Fundraising and Marketing committees all at one time. As a member of the Program Committee since 2004, she would bring her ideas for brainstorm sessions, shared about our programs with community calendars and provided instrumental support to our youth and family programs as an educator. Her constant presence at museum programs and events illustrates her passion and commitment for the Museum. We are excited that she will continue serving the CSPM as a member of the Acquisitions Committee
Darryl Thatcher
Dr. Darryl Thatcher has been a longstanding member of the Programs Committee for the past 16 years. As a native of Colorado Springs, he has always been passionate about preserving and sharing our region’s history.  His grandfather Edwin Giddings came to Colorado Springs soon after the city’s founding about 1868. Darryl has supported the committee by volunteering at family programs like Festival of Lights, serving as a docent and much more. Although he is terming off the Programs Committee, Dr. Thatcher will still be working on the Fundraising and Acquisitions Committee.
