Our November Volunteer of the Month, Ana Legg, volunteers in the CSPM Archives and object collection. Ana earned her B.A. in Museum Studies and Gallery Practice from UCCS, where she also completed an internship working in the University’s collection. Ana explains “museums are interesting to me because I find it fascinating to learn about people’s life story through their art, books, music and photographs.”
Ana chose to volunteer with the CSPM because it is one of her favorite museums. Her interest in local history includes the development of Colorado Springs, and the roles that Spencer Penrose and General William Jackson Palmer played in the growth of the City. She notes that, “Spencer Penrose built the Broadmoor, which attracted tourists to come and visit Colorado Springs. General Jackson Palmer built railways for trains to transport goods across Colorado.”
Ana began volunteering with CSPM in April 2021. Hillary Mannion, the museum’s archivist, is happy to have her help:
Ana is a valuable asset to the archives team—she is a steady and dedicated volunteer who is up for anything! She has processed photographs, ephemera and correspondence in the collection, and helps preserve our collection by interleaving scrapbooks and sleeving photographs.

In September, signaling her readiness to help, Ana began working one morning a week with our registrar, Caitlin Sharpe, in a large collection move.
Outside of her volunteer work at the museum, Ana draws. During her college years, she took drawing and cartoon courses. She draws characters from cartoon shows, anime shows and Disney shows, and creates her own characters. Ana also enjoys spending time with her family. This includes shopping with her sister, helping her mother with holiday decorations, and working with her father in the garden.
We are grateful that Ana brings her knowledge and enthusiasm to the museum every week—her dedication to the museum field certainly shows in her work. Thank you, Ana!
