October is Arts Month, and the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum (CSPM) is proud join the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region (COPPR) and arts organizations across the region to celebrate. Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore, experience and engage with stories and art through our exhibits and public programs.

Guided Tour: CREATEing in Colorado Springs
Throughout its history, the Pikes Peak region has inspired creativity among the people who have called the area home. From the dramatic silent film performances of Lon Chaney to the contemporary beadwork of Southern Ute artist, Debra Box, guests are invited to explore the complexity, diversity, and uniqueness of the Pikes Peak region.

New Deal Art: On the Sidewalk With Respectable People
In the depths of the Great Depression, Colorado Springs blossomed with construction, infrastructure, and cultural projects under Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal programs. This included two local murals painted by Archie Musick, who kept diaries and sketchbooks detailing the projects and the era. In this talk, Pat Musick shares her father's inside view and experiences, along with an overview of the New Deal's impact in the Pikes Peak region. Free Admission; Pre-registration Required.
Little Learners: Express Yourself
Little Learners (ages 3-5) and their favorite grownup are invited to learn and play through games, crafts, songs, and history challenges. These programs are designed to help young learners discover and practice essential development skills, all while exploring local history!
In this month's program, we'll work on the Colorado Early Learning & Development Guidelines of using movement and music to express yourself.
Special Lecture: Stained Glass and Sacred Spaces - McAllister Family History
In honor of Arts Month, the CSPM is partnering with the McAllister House Museum to present Stained Glass and Sacred Spaces. Visitor Services Manager, Amy Miller, will provide a brief history of the McAllisters and Phebe McAllister that connects to her book that was published in 1939. The book was the point of departure for the nearly two years of research for this project. After that, will be an examination of Charles J Connick and Burnham Hoyt; both were artists that Phebe McAllister collaborated closely with on the stained glass window and wood chancel canopy. Followed by Phebe’s artistic visions and collaborations and a close look at the stained glass window, panels, and woodwork.
CSPM Exhibits
"50% of the Story: Women Expressing Creativity"
Recently unveiled, 50% of the Story: Women Expressing Creativity transforms the CSPM collection to more accurately reflect the complexity, diversity and uniqueness of the Pikes Peak Region. Visitors explore historic artwork and artifacts, alongside contemporary pieces to consider how women across time have always told their stories through art and creativity.
Una Familia Grande: The Conejos Neighborhood Project
A community-based exhibit, Una Familia Grande: The Conejos Neighborhood Project uses artifacts, photographs, and stories to put this once vibrant neighborhood back on the map. Explore this exhibit and learn more about Connie Benavidez and the ongoing legacy of Ballet Folklórico de la Raza.

COS@150 shares dozens of art stories including including Looart Press & Current, Rocky Mountain Women's Film Festival, and more.
