Volunteer at CSPM

Current Opportunities

The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is currently recruiting energetic individuals to serve as volunteer Museum Educators. We are looking for volunteers that:

  • Love history
  • Want to give back to their community
  • Enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Are excited to learn new things and share their knowledge with others
  • Can easily adapt and enjoy a fast paced environment
  • Are flexible and open to feedback as they learn new things

Volunteers can choose to train and support our weekly school programs and/or our adult tour offerings. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of four months of service. Generally, volunteers serve one to two times per week. Shifts are anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours.

Our fall 2019 training is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10 through Friday, September 13. New volunteers are required to attend an information session on Tuesday, September 10 at 9am. You can then sign up for required training throughout the rest of the day and week.

If interested please contact us to set-up an interview prior to the January training. All CSPM Volunteers are required to interview, attend required training, and submit for a background check. When placing new volunteers the museum considers interests, skills, availability and determines if the role is the best fit for the prospective volunteer and vice versa.

Interested volunteers should contact Meg Poole, Program Coordinator, to set up an interview. Call 719-385-5631 or email

We are currently recruiting Museum Education Volunteers to assist with our Hands On History School Program for the 2019-2020 school year. This is a 5 to 10 month commitment, and we ask that you volunteer for at least 3 shifts a month (6 hours). Fall training is scheduled for September 10-13, 2019.

Volunteers assist by staffing the front desk, greeting visitors, responding to visitor inquiries, and answering the phone.

Volunteers assist in the museum store with point of sales, inventory, pricing, cleaning, helping guests, and merchandising. Store volunteers must commit to a weekly 3.5 hour shift.

Collection positions are very limited. Volunteers for this work must have a serious interest in the subject matter, and have a regular time commitment. Previous education in the subject is not required; however, the supervising archivist and research coordinator are willing to train the interested volunteer in doing the specialized research work.  Any opportunities will be posted online.

Program volunteers assist with a variety of hands-on activities for visiting families.

The application window for the 2019 Junior Docent Program opens March 16. Learn more about the Junior Docent program here.
