Negro Historical Association of Colorado Springs

The Museum is the official repository for the papers, photographs and artifacts collected by the Negro Historical Association of Colorado Springs (NHACS). To date, 82 images in the photograph collection have been digitized.

The association was founded in September 1981 to preserve and increase awareness of the local black experience. The group’s mission is to ensure that African Americans are included as an integral part of the history of the Pikes Peak Region. Its goals are to instill a sense of pride in black youths and to expose the broader community to the culture and contributions of black people. The organization publishes a monthly newsletter and is continuing to collect historical data and artifacts for donation to its collection at the Museum.

You can view the collection records and some of the images in our online database; you will first be taken to a copyright notice page with a link to the collection records at the bottom.
